The Department of Defense has awarded £ 100,000 for a small company that has developed a substance that hardens immediately on impact. It is expected that the absorption of the substance will be attached to the inside of the helmets of soldiers in the reduction of half the kinetic energy of a bullet or shrapnel and should impenetrable. The gel, called D3O instantly freezes solid form when it is hit at a big impact. “When moved slowly, the molecules pass from the other, but a high impact energy and the lock is blocked at the same time, to become strong,” said Richard Palmer, who invented the gel.  Gel D3O has already developed a range of sports and skiing can be found in gloves, shins, ballet shoes and riding equipment tips. The content is based on “intelligent molecules” that “the shock of locking to absorb the energy and create a solid platform. Once the pressure has gone they return to their normal flexible state. The gel is sewn into clothing or equipment that is flexible until it hardens into a protective barrier at the time of impact. If the product is taken up by defense contractors that could be used to reduce the weight and restriction of armor used by troops on the front of gel pads inserted in key areas of protection.
